Week 9 of the “Winter” CSA!

In the CSA Share this Week:

  • Artichokes
  • Red Cabbage
  • Green Butterhead Lettuce
  • Bunch Carrots
  • Sunflower Shoots
  • Potatoes
  • Bunched Spinach
  • Leeks
  • Tetsu Winter Squash

By this point of our season as we list towards June, "winter" is always in quotes. Indeed, the potatoes, leeks, cabbage and Tetsu squash are holdovers from winter, but everything else is screaming spring: sweet, crunchy early season carrots (seeded at the beginning of January and worth the wait!); tender green butterhead lettuce; huge, happy bunches of spinach; sunflower shoots; and the storied Valley Flora artichoke. You can read up on the history of this family heirloom here, and you can learn how to cook and eat them here.

Here are a few dates worth noting on your calendar:

  • We have one more "winter" harvest the week of May 19th. The final Winter CSA pickup will be on Wednesday, May 21st.
  • For those of you who are signed up for our 29-week "Summer" season (June to December), it'll kick off the week of June 2nd. Look for a direct email from us this week with more details.
  • For those of you who are eagerly awaiting the re-opening of the farmstand, we hope to start the farmstand season in the latter part of May, either 5/21 or 5/28. Stay tuned!
  • And of course, everyone always wants to know when the strawberries will be ready for u-pick. I've learned to not make any promises, but I can say that historically we've opened u-pick in the second half of June. The berry patch is looking especially vibrant right now, so hopefully it'll be a good season!

Enjoy the spring goodies in your share this week!
