You know how I take a pic of the CSA share each week and paste it at the top of the newsletter? Well hands down, October is my favorite month for snapping CSA photos. The collision of summer and fall veggies adds up to peak diversity, and the rainbow of colors can't be beat. This week there are some new things, and some surprises (even for us!):

  • Hakurei turnips and spinach - making their return for Fall!
  • Broccoli - some of you got it last week, others this week
  • Romanesco Cauliflower - some of you are getting it this week, others in the next week or two. We have two staggered plantings and can't supply the whole CSA at once from a single planting, so be patient if you don't see it this week! In case this is a new one for you, this is what you're looking for in your tote (wonderful nutty cauliflower-esque flavor, yummy cut into florets and roasted with olive oil and salt)
  • Persian cukes: we sowed an experimental late planting in August inside our high tunnels and are experiencing a modest but wonderful extension of the cucumber season thanks to that!
  • Sweet peppers galore! They're at their peak in the field right now, and I hope you're as happy about that as I am! If 9(!) peppers is too much for you in a week, you can save them for later in the simplest way: chop them up and throw them in a freezer bag. Come winter, you can grab a handful and add them to soups, chili, enchiladas, anything! Same goes for the poblanos if you can't find time to work them into your menu in the next couple weeks.

Enjoy the cornucopia!
