  • Onions
  • Apples - Liberty and Sweet Sixteen from our very diverse orchard!

On Rotation:

  • Purple Cauliflower
  • Broccoli

We are hustle-bustle these days, dancing with the rain to get all our storage crops out of the field (beets, potatoes, squash) and sow as much of the farm to winter cover crops as we can before the window closes (usually the 3rd week of October is our deadline for getting our Rye/Vetch/Clover/Phacelia mix established for winter). Cover crops are the foundation of soil health on the farm, providing organic matter, nitrogen, and erosion control, so its our top priority at this time of year to get as much of the farm planted to them as possible. But before we can sow cover crops, we have to get the cash crops out of the way, which makes for some fun choreography in the Fall as we strategize our to-do list in sync with the forecast. We need dry weather to harvest most of our storage crops and to prep the ground, and then we need rain to help germinate the newly-seeded cover crops. This fall has been magically perfect so far, giving us sunny days throughout the week and then welcome weekend rain. Couldn't ask for more! Here's a pic of Jack and Lily and the crew, making it all happen in the potato field. What a team!
